Hey everybody! So I know its been a semi-long time no regular post… but I’m not the only one whose guilty (and contribute a fair amount still, just nowhere near what I/we used to be). Blame it on the fact I’m taking twenty units. So here’s the big announcement:
DUMBO RADIO- THIS SATURDAY
11:30 pm – 1 am
Tune In @ 91.9 KCSB
www.kcsb.org (look for the stream link in the top right hand corner)
Be there or be square. I’ll be doing my long awaited mix, Magnum, along with a little downtempo mix to start yall off. Here are a few tracks to hold you over for the in between time.
This song is so sick, Mehdi dropped it at Hard New Years (which reminds me I never did my usual RaveRoundup, is it too late?) and I’ve been looking for it ever since. Equating chicks to the most important meal of the day over a dope beat… I’m sold
I found this on Treezy’s Top 10 for January post on his blog (if your curious), and it seriously sounds like a Duck Sauce song. But it isn’t. Disco-House FTW!
Crazy track, its kinda like if Boys Noize and Animal Collective had a child together. I’ve been diggin on it HARD lately. I have an epic, epic, EPIC tranny that I do with this song. Keep your ears peeled on Saturday.
So, this is rumored to be a new diddly for the upcoming Tron Legacy, which is being scored by the french duo. It takes a while to build and isn’t a banger by any means. But it’s Daft Punk, so you’re gonna download it, and you’re gonna listen to it. 12 mins. long. Prepare yourself.
So the real line up is definitely not as fat. Lose Boys Noize and Fake Blood; Gain Wolfgang Gartner… And you have to go all three days, you can’t just do one… Lame.
Disclaimer: So I hope this isn’t fake, but it is officially Tuesday and they said on their twitter it was coming out Tuesday.
Okay, now for the highlights:
Friday: Rolling Stones, Sade, David Gaywetta, Mos Def, Douchemau5, BOYS NOIZE, Yelle, LAIDBACK LUKE, Glitch Mob, Bass Nectar, DANGER
Saturday: MUSE, GORILLAZ (?!?!), Tiesto (ehh), LCD Soundsystem, Scissor Sisters, Imogen Heap, 2MANYDJS(!), MAJOR LAZER(!), Wale, La Roux, Rue Rye, DADA LIFE
Sunday: THE BEASTIE BOYS, Thom Yorke, Phoenix, BIG BOI, Devo, Dead Weather, Soulwax, Hot Chip, RJD2, BURAKA(!), RUSKO (?!), FAKE BLOOD (fuck yes), Proxy
So holy shit, I may have to sell my body to go to this shit. Dope line up to say the fucking least.
It had to happen, we had to pick one, one song that we thought most changed music this year.
We voted. Here it is.
With a snappy 4 bar snare solo buildup we get…
Pon de Floor!
Major Lazer’s debut single “Pon De Floor” literally took the world by storm this year. Major Lazer, the collaboration of Diplo and Switch, immidiately became the face of club dance music. Since it’s debut it seems like every DJ at any club will drop this. Nearly everything about it is perfect. The high synth is, I mean c’mon, fucking awesome. The kick drum hits SOO hard. The vocal sample is just foreign enough for people to REALLY wanna know what they’re saying but when it comes down to it all they need is “PON DE FLOOR!”. Along with being an incredible song, it marked the emergence of Electronic Dance Music to the main stream. Popular radio statioes like Power 106 in Los Angeles already have it in regular rotation. Pon De Floor took what EDM people love and made it globally accessible. Now Dancehall Music and is swiffering the nation with every other genre of EDM behind it. Pon de Revolution bitches.
