04.Jan.2010 Dumbses & Rambo 9 for ‘09
Hey gang, so it’s the new year and all we wanna do is talk about the last one. Here are your favorite techno doods Ramses and Dumbo’s favorite tracks of 2009. In ALMOST no particular order.
Download: Sidney Samson – Riverside (Original Mix)
Man, if you were at a club and the DJ was spinning techno, this song was CERTAINLY in their set. Everyone from minor opener DJ’s to heavy hitters like Mr. Oizo and DJ Mehdi were playing this anthem by Sidney Samson. Not quite house, not quite electro, not too dutch either (despite Samson’s heritage) this song rocked every crowd with possibly the most infectious vocal drop ever.
Download: Wolfgang Gartner – Wolfgang’s 5th Symphony (Original Mix)
One man who’s had a busy 2009 is Wolfgang Gartner. From his own originals to remixes for the likes of Timbaland and Britney Spears, Wolfgang has fully made a name for himself in the Electro House world and the music world in general. This is the track that launched him.
Download: Duck Sauce – You’re Nasty
Who doesn’t like French House? Who doesn’t like A-Trak or Armand Van Helden? Who doesn’t like a lil plum sauce on their duck? Duck Sauce burst onto the scene this year as EDM’s new super-collaboration. These two met and exceeded expectations with their two releases, this one is arguably the better of the two. Originally I was a hater on this song for its drawn out buildups and weird melody but now it is CERTAINLY in constant mixing rotation.
Download: Boys Noize – Jeffer
Album of the year for EDM had to be Boys Noize’s “Power”. Bomb track after bomb track after bomb track. Boys Noize is certainly ahead of the game when it comes to what’s coming. He’s putting out tomorrows music today. “Jeffer” was the first song released from “Power” (along with “Starter”) and gave everyone goosebumps about what’s to come. A-Trak dropped this at Hard NYE. People went nuts. ‘Nuff said.
Download: Yeah Yeah Yeahs – Heads Will Roll (A-Trak Remix)
And SPEAKING of A-Trak, here is another man who’s been busy this year becoming the most famous DJ in the world. This song had been remixed to death by almost everyone until late in the game Annie Mac announced and played a rip of this track on Radio 1 and blogs blew up. Hands down the best rendition and an ultimate crowd pleaser.
Download: Laidback Luke & Diplo – Hey! (Original Mix)
This is the 3rd time this song has been posted on the blog. You already know how good it is.
Download: Silvio Ecomo & Chuckie – Moombah (Afrojack Remix)
You either love this song or hate it and there is literally no middle ground. Afrojack has been a huge name in the Dutch house scene in the past year and Moombah was the track that got the most attention. Super loud, super abrasive, super heavy kick drums. Like I said, love it or hate it.
Download: Fake Blood – I Think I Like It
This song is in similar vain to “You’re Nasty” in that it’s reigniting an old genre with a new flair. Fake Blood took a step back from making crazy fidgety/housy/electro-y beats to produce the “Fix Your Accent” EP from whence this song came. All three songs on the EP have a similar sound; sample based with drums and blips on top, very french house and very good.
Download: D.I.M. & TAI – Lyposuct (Original Mix)
This song should have crowd cheering over the entire track because that’s what people do when they hear it. DJ Mehdi dropped this at Hard NYE and you could literally see the entire crowd jump on the last beat before the drop. Then upon landing immidiately fist pump harder than ever before. This song rules. I like this song for the same reason I like Warp 1.9 by The Bloody Beetroots. Similar kind of vibe.
Twas a fantastic year for techno, lovely followers, and may we have another this year.
